性狀描述: 微黃色針狀結晶。熔點206℃。易溶于乙醇、乙醚和熱水。與三氯化鐵作用呈棕色。
用途: 醫藥，農藥的中間體。用于生產雙香豆素、新抗凝，華法林等抗凝血藥物。這類4-羥基香豆素衍生物是一類口服抗凝血藥物。雙香豆素因吸收不規則、不完全，已被華法林等所取代。雙香豆素作用維持時間最長（4-7d），華法林較長（3-5d），新抗凝較短（2-4d），香豆素乙酯最短（2-3d）。
4-羥基香豆素也是一些殺鼠藥的中間體，例如殺鼠靈、氯殺鼠靈、克殺鼠、殺鼠萘、聯苯殺鼠萘等。殺鼠靈是第一代抗凝血型殺鼠劑，在全世界廣泛使用，殺鼠效果很好。
第二代抗凝血型殺鼠劑是溴聯苯殺鼠萘，只要一次投餌即可使鼠中毒致死，在美國殺鼠劑市場中已占30%。
4-羥基香豆素也是一種香料，香豆素類在植物界分布廣泛。牛馬吃了腐敗的紫苜蓿曾因喪失血凝性而出血致死,這可能是由于植物中香豆精形成雙香豆素而造成。

First Aid Measures
【Ingestion】Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid. Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
【Inhalation】Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
