性質(zhì)描述:  白色晶體，熔點(diǎn)  36-40°C,沸點(diǎn)116℃（26.6Pa）。閃點(diǎn)  >110°C ，可溶于水，冠醚又稱大環(huán)醚，是含有多個(gè)氧原子的大環(huán)化合物。命名時(shí)，把環(huán)上所含原子的總數(shù)標(biāo)注在“冠”字之前，其中所含氧原子數(shù)標(biāo)注在名稱之后。這是杜邦公司的Pedersen在1967年意外發(fā)現(xiàn)的，并發(fā)現(xiàn)這類化合物具有許多異常的特性。

用途：冠醚最主要的特點(diǎn)之一，是可與各種金屬鹽、銨鹽、有機(jī)陽(yáng)離子化合物等形成穩(wěn)定的絡(luò)合物。利用這一性質(zhì)，可將各種鹽類溶于有機(jī)溶劑。冠醚可將陽(yáng)離子螯環(huán)內(nèi)，同時(shí)由于有朝外的有機(jī)基因可生成絡(luò)合物，亦可溶于非極性的有機(jī)溶劑。這時(shí)，未被溶劑化的陰離子，以裸露的陰離子形式存在于溶劑中，故活性極大。

冠醚可使堿金屬和有機(jī)堿金屬化合物溶解在有機(jī)溶劑中。因而在有機(jī)合成、光學(xué)拆分、重金屬螯合、分離、分析以及生理活性的醫(yī)藥、生物化學(xué)等方面找到廣泛的應(yīng)用。例如，用作相轉(zhuǎn)移催化劑，使許多在傳統(tǒng)條件下難以反應(yīng)，甚至不發(fā)生的反應(yīng)，能順利地進(jìn)行，這類反應(yīng)速率快、條件簡(jiǎn)單、操作方便、產(chǎn)率高。

例如，安息香在水溶液中的縮合反應(yīng)產(chǎn)率極低，如果在該水溶液中加入7%的冠醚，則可得到產(chǎn)率為78%的安息香。這一反應(yīng)還可在苯（或乙腈）中進(jìn)行，盡管氰化鉀不溶于苯，但如果加入18-冠-6，則不僅能發(fā)生反應(yīng)，而且產(chǎn)率可高達(dá)95%。
